HD Construction Equipment's Incheon Campus Achieves 100% Waste Recycling, Earning a ZWTL Platinum Rating for Two Consecutive Years

ZWTL is an international certification that assesses a facility's ability to manage resources in a circular manner. It verifies waste management practices, including recycling and energy recovery, based on the waste generated at business sites. Facilities are awarded ratings of Platinum (100%), Gold (95–99%), or Silver (90–94%) based on their recycling rates. After achieving a Gold rating for four consecutive years starting in 2021, the HD Construction Equipment Incheon Campus became the first facility in the construction machinery industry to reach a recycling rate of 99.54% last year, earning its first Platinum rating. By maintaining this top-tier status again this year, the plant has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to resource circularity. HD Construction Equipment is dedicated to developing resource recovery methods specifically designed for the unique characteristics of each type of waste. For example, foundry sand, which is used to mold products by pouring molten metal, and process dust are processed separately for recycling into raw materials. Waste synthetic resins and waste wood are shredded to create Solid Refuse Fuel (SRF), while cutting fluids used in metal machining are reused after impurities are removed. To reduce packaging waste from the delivery of raw materials and components, the company has replaced traditional wooden pallets and cardboard boxes with steel pallets and reusable Danpla (plastic) boxes. Additionally, it has implemented a resource circularity system to collect and reuse used packaging materials. HD Construction Equipment is enhancing its resource circularity initiatives beyond just managing waste on the shop floor. The company is now focusing on improving resource sustainability throughout the entire product lifecycle, which includes development, operation, maintenance, and disposal. To reduce the environmental impact at the end-of-life stage of its equipment, HD Construction Equipment has developed biodegradable lubricants that are suitable for hydraulic systems and engines in construction machinery. In addition, the company has developed parts made with 20% to 30% recycled materials and is currently validating their performance for use in both internal and external product components. "Earning the ZWTL Platinum rating for two consecutive years is a testament to the ongoing efforts of our executives and employees to establish a resource circularity framework and minimize waste," stated an official from HD Construction Equipment. "We will continue our resource circularity initiatives throughout all aspects of our operations, from plant management to product usage and disposal."

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to Supply Large-Scale Power Generation Systems to U.S. Data Centers

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, a shipbuilding affiliate of HD Hyundai, announced that it recently signed a contract with U.S.-based energy infrastructure developer Corban Energy Group to supply power generation systems equipped with its 9.6-megawatt (MW) HiMSEN engines. The contract, valued at USD 673.8 million, covers a combined capacity of 1,000 MW and will support power supply for data centers operated by a major U.S. technology company. Corban Energy Group provides Gas, LNG, and power products to growing infrastructure projects including data centers and Department of War (DoW) projects. This contract marks HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' largest-ever order for power generation engines. The company previously signed a USD 425 million agreement in April with U.S.-based energy infrastructure developer AEG to supply power generation equipment for data centers. The 9.6-MW HiMSEN engines supplied under this agreement are high-capacity, medium-speed engines that offer high power generation efficiency and reliability. Their high-output and high-efficiency performance enables continuous 24/7 operation, providing a competitive advantage in the data center market. Starting with this power generation supply contract, the two companies plan to maintain a close collaborative relationship and further expand their business cooperation in upcoming follow-on projects. The U.S. market for data center power generation equipment has been growing rapidly, fueled by the expansion of AI services and increased investment in cloud infrastructure. According to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), data centers' share of total U.S. electricity consumption is projected to increase by more than threefold by 2030. HD Hyundai is expanding its group-wide efforts to capitalize on growing demand in the data center market. While HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the group's intermediary holding company for the shipbuilding business, is focused on developing core technologies for floating data centers, other affiliates such as HD Hyundai Electric and HD Hyundai Marine Solution are expanding their businesses in power distribution and electrical equipment supply and power generation engine maintenance services, respectively, to strengthen their positions in the market.  "The steady stream of collaboration inquiries we are receiving in the data center power generation engine market demonstrates the market recognition of the HiMSEN engine's technological capabilities and reliability," an HD Hyundai Heavy Industries official said. "We will continue to explore diverse business opportunities and strengthen our presence in the power generation equipment market."

HD Construction Equipment Expands Renewable Energy Procurement to Accelerate 2040 RE100 Target

On the 6th, HD Construction Equipment announced that it recently signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) totaling 12.4 MWp (Megawatt-peak) with multiple renewable energy developers for its Incheon plant. Under this contract, the share of renewable energy used at the Incheon plant is expected to more than double, rising from 19% to 43.9% by January 2027. Additionally, HD Construction Equipment is enhancing its renewable energy usage at other key facilities across the country, with Ulsan expected to reach 42% and Gunsan projected to achieve 53.1% by the same date. The overall renewable energy utilization rate across all HD Construction Equipment facilities in South Korea is projected to climb from 22% to 40.3%. This transition will reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by 22,155 tons, delivering an environmental impact equivalent to planting approximately 3.36 million 30-year-old pine trees. In 2023, HD Construction Equipment became the first in its industry to join the RE100 initiative, officially committing to a 100% renewable energy target by 2040. According to a 2025 report by the Korea Energy Economics Institute (KEEI), the average renewable energy adoption rate among South Korean companies disclosing under RE100 standards stands at around 12%. RE100 is a global initiative launched in 2014 by the international non-profit Climate Group in partnership with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The campaign calls on participating corporations to source 100% of their electricity from renewable energy, such as solar and wind power. In addition to these agreements, HD Construction Equipment is actively expanding its on-site renewable energy procurement and carbon reduction initiatives by installing solar power systems, purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), and replacing high-emission facilities. To maximize energy efficiency across its manufacturing processes, the company operates a Factory Energy Management System (FEMS) that monitors energy consumption by individual production process in real time. Last year, the system identified significant power loss stemming from an aging transformer at the Incheon plant; replacing it with a high-efficiency model cut energy loss by 45% and substantially optimized renewable power utilization.  "Expanding the use of renewable energy is a critical task for securing sustainable manufacturing competitiveness," stated an official from HD Construction Equipment. "We will consistently increase our procurement of external renewable energy and enhance our self-generation efforts to successfully meet our RE100 target by 2040 and our Net-Zero target by 2050."
